Please let us share you an impression of our this year's Spark Narration program together with VersPers where designers and journalists join forces on the development of experimental media productions.
Let us get back to October 2022, when designers and journalists Chetana Pai, Connor McMullen, Eva van der Zand, Giulia Pompilj, Polina Slavova, Sarah Saleh, Tirzah Baank and Zippora Martosoewando were selected to join Spark Narration from November 1, 2022 till April 30, 2023.
These talents were supported a 6 month artistic and journalistic journey with a fee (6500 euros per team), a workplace on location from A Lab and weekly tailor-made supervision by Isaura Sanwirjatmo (production), Geesje van Haren (journalism) and Noortje van Eekelen (design).
In addition to all this, various experts Juhee Hahm, Luke Rideout, Lucas Hendricks (A Lab), Alice Wong, Jaasir Linger, Serginho Stekkel, Isabelle Britto (The Black Archives), Sophie Almanza (Makers van Amsterdam Noord) and Thieu Custers (De Waag) provided lectures, workshops and advice to support the participants in their process and development.
During Spark Narration, we explored the theme of Suriname in Amsterdam Noord by combining artistic and journalistic expertise, methods and approaches. Within this topic, the 4 teams worked on a self-formulated research question.
To proudly announce the very final results of Spark Narration, on May 24 and May 25, 2023, we organised a public event and exhibition at the location of Eye Filmmuseum. None other than Giulia Pompilj, Polina Slavova, Eva van der Zand, Zippora Martosoewando, Hristo Heijmans Breeker, Marciano San A Jong, Anita Plowell, Chetana Pai, Sarah Saleh, Tanya Sitaram, Tirzah Baank, Iwan Brave and Connor McMullen exhibited and presented their work.
The public event was moderated by Devika Partiman and took place in a sold out Room at the Top on the 3rd floor of Eye Filmmuseum.
Spark Narration has been made possible with the kind support of Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunsten and Stimuleringsfonds voor de Journalistiek.
